"Oh Danny Boy, you are so very tiny,
Oh Danny Boy, you are extremely small!"
In the first picture Grandpa-ji (or Grandpa G!) is very proudly holding (and feeding!) the Gilchrist heir! (This is a top-up feed with extra vitamins - he is actually a breast man, a real sucker!!)
I arrived with Edward and Nicci on the evening of July 13th. I got a 'peke' into the 'bassinet' that night, but met my grandson properly the next morning. He is absolutely gorgeous! It was wonderful to see my son and daughter-in-law again, but Nicci was not well, and was diagnosed with diabetes the weekend after I arrived. It was the Lord's provision that I was on hand to help; just as I had complete care of Edward for a few weeks when he was 4 months old, so I was in total charge of Daniel for one day! After all they have been through, this is just one more thing, but Nicci is coping marvellously well with injections, analysing and vetting all her food etc.

I was able to explore San Francisco, and enjoyed seeing the original Franciscan Mission Church (the oldest building in the city), visiting Holy Trinity Russian Cathedral (St Tikhon's
parish), and the Holy Virgin Cathedral, where I was able to venerate the relics of St John Maximovitch the Wonderworker. On the Saturday Edward took me to visit the prison island of Alcatraz: we got in and out safely! On Sunday I went to the city of Modesto, and to the Liturgy at St James' Orthodox Church - the pastor is Fr Thomas Zell, whom I had met some years ago in Bath. I was with Edward for his birthday, which was great: we had lunch at Sam's Chowder House overlooking the Pacific in Half Moon Bay! On another day Edward took me to see the Haight Ashbury area of the city; we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, and had lunch at Sausalito, and went on to fly E's kite at lovely Stinson Beach!
