Around the world in 60 days!

I left Brentwood on July 6th. I spent the night with Emily in Putney, and she took me to Heathrow first thing next morning. I flew at 9.30 with BA to Miami, where there was a 3 hour wait before another two hour flight to Guatemala City. Doug and Sara Johnson met me and took me to the Kids Alive Oasis. I tumbled into bed at 10 pm - but for me it was 5 am next morning!!
Jane had sponsored a 12 year old girl called Candy. We had, of course, never met her, but Edward had translated letters in Spanish! I thought Jane would be really pleased if I went to meet her. I did not actually know where Guatemala was, but thought it couldn't be that far from California! I was expecting it to be the hottest part of my journeys, but I had not realised that Guatemala city is 5000 ft above sea level, and the Oasis was a further 2000 ft higher! Added to that, it is in July and August that (despite being in the northern hemisphere) they get their 'winter' weather!
It was a great joy to meet Candy, and I got a great welcome. She was very pleased with the red 'Hello Kitty' hoodie I brought her, and I also took out 60 4-colour Bic biros - one for everybody.
